Federal Impact Aid

Federal Impact Aid Benefits All Students!

The Impact Aid collection window for 2025 is November 5 – December 12.

Every year the Bremerton School District must apply for Federal Impact Aid funds from the U.S. Department of Education.  Federal Impact Aid funds compensate the District for the loss of local tax dollars due to families living in tax exempt federal property in the Bremerton area. We receive approximately $300,000 in Impact Aid funding each year!

Every fall the Bremerton School District must apply for Federal Impact Aid funds from the U.S. Department of Education. The information must be collected annually with a form that includes a parent signature.  Federal Impact Aid funds are used for basic education programs district wide and support all our students.  It is critical that we receive this completed form information from every family (not every student) in the District.

  • Only one form is required for each family. The District is sending home one form per family - with the youngest child in the family.

  • Due to a reduction in responses when we emphasised online forms last year, we are doing all paper forms for 2025. The form is available on the Impact Aid website, however, as a fillable PDF that can be completed, printed and returned to school.

We’ve found that the response rate is much lower if we ask families to complete the form online.  Our schools who distribute/collect printed forms have a much higher response rate than schools that ask families to complete the form online.  Receiving a form from every family is important so we’re going to try doing it “old school” with paper forms for 2025.

  • The district only reports the number of students living with families who live on and/or work on federal property. We do not report information about individual students to the Department of Education. The information remains confidential.

  • While both forms are crucial, they serve different purposes. With Impact Aid, we are required to follow the federal government's specific timeline for collecting that information. The CNEEB form is collected earlier because it's used to verify your family's eligibility for a number of important benefits, including free ASB cards and discounts on school fees. This allows us to provide those benefits to our students right away, without waiting for the federal Impact Aid window later in the fall.
