Consolidated Facilities Replacement

Consolidated Facilities Building Replacement

About the Project

In February of 2024, Bremerton School District voters approved a 25-year bond to support updates or replacements to facilities across the district, including the replacement of the District’s Consolidated Facilities building which houses the facilities/maintenance and transportation departments, as well as the District warehouse.  The new building will also include the technology department.

Construction is scheduled to begin in Summer of '26!

We're pleased to announce that we'll be constructing a new and improved Consolidated Facilities Building to house our critical IT, Facilities, and Transportation Department personnel and equipment. The new ~25,000 sf building will be constructed on the same site and adjacent to the existing building, enabling key staff to maintain operations during construction. The new facility will better serve the needs of the entire district by centralizing the IT infrastructure and decentralizing the storage of building-specific consumable items.

Key features of the new building include:

  • Improved, dedicated IT server room to better maintain critical data infrastructure throughout the district
  • Improved bus and service vehicle maintenance capacity
  • Dedicated bus washing station
  • Improved warehouse footprint and organization

Project Updates

Schematic Design is complete. Our PDB team has made exceptional efforts in this phase to hone our approach to stormwater, site logistics, phased demolition, and material re-use to maximize our budget flexibility. The result is an exceptionally polished Schematic Design that provides great insight into how the new site will operate.

Some of the cost-saving measures that we’ll pursue going forward have given us the ability to deliver a full program for this project while enabling us to utilize capable existing resources on the site. Key among these is the re-purposing of the existing mechanic’s shop on the SE corner of the site. We’ve shifted several program items and Facilities teams into this shop and are still looking into added storage capacity in this space.

The next phase of the project will be Design Development. We’ll continue to seek and integrate feedback from our key stakeholder groups as we develop a more granular set of plans. This includes room-by-room layout discussions, furniture & equipment demonstrations, and determining building systems among other steps. The PDB team will be working with the City of Bremerton and preparing to deliver permit drawings at the end of the phase. Key to our team’s ability to deliver such a comprehensive Schematic Design package has been the continued cooperation and engagement of the BSD Facilities, Transportation, and IT department leadership. We’ll seek to continue our collaboration through the next phases of design as well.

A new consolidated facilities building is long overdue. Our primary focus and capital dollars have been directed towards our school buildings – enhancing learning environments, ensuring safety upgrades, and providing the best possible spaces where students learn and grow every day. Investments in our operational facilities, while necessary, have been a lower priority as they do not directly impact the daily educational experience of our students in the same way our classrooms and learning spaces do.
