Important information about winter weather school delays and closures

  • We understand that changes to the school schedule or bus routes impact our families. Making the decision regarding school delays and closures is not an easy task. Bremerton School District leadership puts a lot of effort before making decision to delay or close schools due to inclement weather conditions. Each time a decision has to be made, many different interests and issues are taken into consideration but our top priority is always the safety of our students and staff.

We make every effort to make the decision about school delays and closures due to winter weather by 6 a.m. and get the information out to families and staff ASAP via:

    Reminders:

    • The "robo calls" take time due to the volume of calls the system has to make.  The information will be shared via other channels long before many families receive a robo call.  Therefore, we encourage parents/guardians to sign-up District text messages for school delays/closure notices in Skyward, or via Flash Alert.
    • If you do not want an early morning robo call for school delays/closures, you can “opt out.”  You must update your communication preferences for “school closures/delays” in Skyward Family Access.  Click here for instructions.
    • Know before you go! If you wake up and it is snowing, or you hear about snow anywhere in Kitsap County, we encourage you to check the District website or social media pages for updates before going to school!
    • No news is good news! If you don't see information about a delay or closure from any of the above sources, it means schools and buses are on a regular schedule!

Early Release due to winter weather or emergencies

  • If there is a storm or if snow begins to fall during the school day, we believe the safest place for children is in our schools. However, weather conditions may develop during the day which may require early dismissal. Efforts will be made to announce early dismissals as soon as possible.  Parents are welcome to pick up their children early during inclement weather conditions.
