BSD Family Updates The latest district news for our students and families!

November 2025

Conferences are this month!

We hope to see you there!

Student-led parent-teacher conferences are November 7 and 10 (though some schools may offer conferences at other times the week of November 3). Our goal as a district is to have 100 percent of our families participate in conferences. Your student(s) will be working with their classroom or home room teacher to prepare for these conferences.

Student-led conferences foster a sense of ownership and accountability for a student’s learning journey. By preparing and presenting their own progress, goals, and reflections to their parents, students develop essential communication, self-assessment, and advocacy skills. Conferences are intended to be a student-driven conversation between teachers, students and their families that strengthens the home-school connection - and builds confidence and empower students to be invested in their education!

'Tis the season...to get ready for winter weather!

The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder! We want to make sure that our staff and families are prepared and know what to expect should we have weather-related school delays or closures!

What families need to know

We make every effort to make the decision about school closures due to winter weather by 5:30 a.m. (or sometimes even the night before, if possible).

We will communicate information and updates about weather impacts on school via:

Important: We do not send out early morning "robo calls" for snow days or winter weather delays. If a decision is made to delay or cancel school the night before, we will notify families and staff via ParentSquare and robo call that evening.

Federal Impact Aid is important funding for the District!

Federal Impact Aid funds compensate the District for the loss of local tax dollars due to families living in tax exempt federal property in the Bremerton area. We receive approximately $300,000 in Impact Aid funding each year!

Every fall the Bremerton School District must apply for Federal Impact Aid funds from the U.S. Department of Education. The information must be collected annually with a form that includes a parent signature.

Federal Impact Aid funds are used for basic education programs district wide and support all our students.

Please watch for, complete and return your (pink) Impact Aid form ASAP!
It is critical that we receive this completed form information from every household in the District (one per family).

In the next week, schools will be sending home PINK Impact Aid Forms with the youngest student in every household. Please complete and send it back to school with your student ASAP. If you do not receive a form for your family, please contact your child's school to request a copy, or download a fillable PDF from the District website.

Q: Why doesn't the District collect Impact Aid and (yellow) CNEEB forms at the same time?

A: While both forms are crucial, they serve different purposes. With Impact Aid, we are required to follow the federal government's specific timeline for collecting that information. The CNEEB form is collected earlier because it's used to verify your family's eligibility for a number of important benefits, including free ASB cards and discounts on school fees. This allows us to provide those benefits to our students right away, without waiting for the federal Impact Aid window later in the fall.

Some important "housekeeping" reminders

Have you returned your (yellow) CNEEB application?

It is not too late! You can still return your family's bright yellow Child Nutrition Education and Eligibility Benefits (CNEEB) application!

Submitting your application helps ensure your family receives all available benefits and supports important school programs. Based on feedback from families, we opted to collect paper forms this year rather than asking families to complete the form in Skyward.

You only need to complete one form per family! Thank you for your cooperation!

Have you completed your ABCs?

There is still time to complete your Annual Back-to-school Check-in process or ABCs (formerly known as the Annual Demographic Update).

Families are asked to log into their Skyward Family Access account and take a few moments to complete this important process. It should take about 5 minutes (or less!) to complete the process for each child in your household and can be done on any mobile device or computer.

The ABC process must be completed for all students in the district - including both previously enrolled as well as newly registered students. If your student will be enrolled in Running Start, the process must be completed for them as well.

If you have questions about the ABC process, please contact us by email or call 360-473-1076. After November 7, families will need to contact their child's school to make any updates in Skyward.

Important reminder for middle and high school students

Students at Mountain View Middle School and Bremerton High School may purchase an ASB “card” (a sticker that goes on their student ID making it an ASB card). ASB stickers are required to participate in BHS or MVMS athletics

Free ASB stickers based on family income

Some students may qualify for a free ASB sticker based on family incomeFamilies who believe they may qualify must complete THIS FORM (Spanish) and return it via email to cns@BremertonSchools.org or turn it in at the BHS Athletics/Activities window or the MVMS main office. This form must be submitted and eligibility must be confirmed prior to students receiving the free ASB sticker. These forms are also available in the main office for both schools. This information remains confidential.

Families who qualify for a free ASB sticker for their Bremerton High School student(s) also qualify for free admission to ticketed events at Bremerton High School. Learn more.

StopFinder

Stopfinder is a secure, easy-to-use app that allows parents and guardians to accurately track their children’s school bus in real-time.

With StopFinder you can:

  • View the location of your student’s bus and know when it will reach your student’s stop.

  • Securely share your student’s schedule with caregivers.

  • Receive location notifications based on GeoAlert regions you create for your student.

Stopfinder can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Stopfinder requires an invite and registration through the District prior to accessing your student’s transportation schedule. Only authorized users will have access to school bus information.

We have resolved our system issue. Stopfinder invitations were sent out to all families with a current email address in Skyward in September.

If you did not receive an invitation and would like to use the app, please:

  1. Complete your ABCs in Skyward and/or contact your child’s school to update your email address and
  2. Contact the District Transportation Department at 360-473-0507 or Transportation@BremertonSchools.org to request an invitation.
