About Communications

Communications

The Communications Department connects our students, families, staff, and community through clear and timely communication. Whether we’re celebrating school success stories, supporting district departments, or issuing critical safety updates, our mission is to ensure our entire community receives reliable, accurate information when it matters most.

The Communications Department connects our District, schools and community by sharing clear, timely, and engaging information. We support students, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners by:

  • Sharing Our Stories: Highlighting student and school achievements through our website, social media, e-newsletters, and publications.
  • Supporting Schools & Departments: Assisting staff across the District with strategic communications, media relations, and public outreach.
  • Delivering Emergency Updates: Providing urgent, accurate notifications during inclement weather, natural disasters, or other critical situations.

Our Goal

To ensure families, staff, community members, and media outlets always receive reliable, accurate, and timely information.

How We Communicate

Every August, we produce an electronic 12-month calendar with holidays, school breaks and other important dates. We encourage staff and families to save a shortcut to the calendar and/or download/print it for easy access!

Visit the Calendar/School Hours webpage for links to this and other calendars including Tandem (facilities usage) and the one-page academic calendar.

Not-for-profit community organizations that wish to provide information to students and families about educational and recreational opportunities may reach families through PeachJar, our electronic flyer distribution system. Learn more about Flyer and Poster Distribution >

Parent/Guardians will receive notifications about weather-related schedule changes via ParentSquare. We use Flash Alert to send weather-related notifications to local media and to others outside of our school system.  Anyone can sign-up for Flash Alert and receive weather and other emergency notifications via text or email.  Learn more about Flash Alert.

The Bremerton School District utilizes a communication platform called ParentSquare to help us keep families better informed and more connected with our school community.

With ParentSquare, families receive all school and classroom messages in one place and translated into their preferred language—whether by email, text, app, or web.

Strategic Communications Plan

The Bremerton School District developed its first Strategic Communications Plan in 2025-26 to strengthen trust, ensure consistent messaging, and align communications with the District’s 2024–2030 Strategic Plan.

Public education operates in an increasingly visible and competitive environment. Families have more educational options than ever before, and community expectations for transparency, responsiveness, and measurable outcomes continue to rise. Building and sustaining our community’s  trust requires proactive, strategic, and disciplined communication systems. This plan is supported by annual communication goals, strategies and tactics.
