About the Project
In February of 2024, Bremerton School District voters approved a 25-year bond to support updates or replacements to facilities across the district, including the replacement of the District’s Consolidated Facilities building which houses the facilities/maintenance and transportation departments, as well as the District warehouse. The new building will also include the technology department.
Construction is scheduled to begin in Summer of '26!
We're pleased to announce that we'll be constructing a new and improved Consolidated Facilities Building to house our critical IT, Facilities, and Transportation Department personnel and equipment. The new ~25,000 sf building will be constructed on the same site and adjacent to the existing building, enabling key staff to maintain operations during construction. The new facility will better serve the needs of the entire district by centralizing the IT infrastructure and decentralizing the storage of building-specific consumable items.
Key features of the new building:
Improved, dedicated IT server room to better maintain critical data infrastructure throughout the district
Improved bus and service vehicle maintenance capacity
Dedicated bus washing station
Improved warehouse footprint and organization
Project Updates
The Consolidated Facilities project is nearing the end of the Validation phase. The team held planning sessions with district staff and conducted site studies and “Day in the Life” workshops with transportation and maintenance teams to better understand how to design a space that supports their everyday work.
Abbott and Rice-Fergus-Miller have conducted their initial programming, conceptual design, and target value budget, and are currently working with key stakeholders to clarify scope and program needs. This exercise is oriented around maximizing efficiency for the facility and flexibility in our construction budget. Our current proposed facility layout provides tremendous flexibility and will allow the majority of staff to remain on-site during construction while ensuring that a safe working environment is maintained. This layout also provides the flexibility of performing selective demolition to a portion of the existing structure or utilizing the north wing warehouse for construction materials laydown.
As we’re finalizing the site investigations, the focus on risk identification, mitigation, and associated cost estimating is shifting from the site to include the proposed structures. Our team is seeking to identify any savings or efficiencies that can be explored to mitigate the economic uncertainty, which impacts the ability to effectively estimate costs. As we progress towards building the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) agreement, our team’s priority has been efficiency. With the support of our design-build partners, this project continues to progress quickly while continuously working to reduce overall cost in support of the additional capital projects associated with the Bond Program.
