BHS social studies teacher Craig Divis visits Singapore

Craig Divis, a Social Studies teacher at Bremerton High School, was invited by the country of Singapore to serve as an Outstanding Teacher-in-Residence this past summer.

The program is run by the Ministry of Education in Singapore.  Only two teachers from throughout the world each year are invited to serve in this capacity.  Mr. Divis was the first Social Studies teacher invited to be a part of the program.

"Singapore has one of the best education systems in the world, and the opportunity to serve in this capacity was a tremendous honor," said Mr. Divis.

During his two and a half weeks in Singapore in July, Mr. Divis visited schools, observed classes, taught a class to students, gave numerous workshops for teachers, and had numerous meetings with education officials.  His focus was on helping teachers with how to teach critical thinking and how to lead student-led discussion in the classroom.
