| First Week Success! We have had a great first week! Students were able to reunite with old friends and make some new ones. Everyone participated in fun "get to know you" activities. As we get to know one another, we all start to become a part of the West Hills Family. As we launch into this second week, we will continue to learn routines and procedures as well as build community and get started on some learning. In these first few weeks we know that it is critical to build community in the classroom so students feel a strong sense of belonging which helps the brain feel a sense of safety to take risks and learn. The time we spend getting to kow one another and practicing the predictability of routines will help us when it comes time to engage in the productive struggle of learning. | | Thank you for joining us at our Welcome Event before school started |

| Student Drop-Off and Pick-UpOur school hours are 9:05-3:35 and dismissal on Wednesday is 1:40. In the morning, we do not have adults available to supervise children until 8:55. Please help us to make sure your children are not arriving before 8:55. If you arrive before that time, you are responsible for keeping your child with you until we open the front doors at 8:55. This ensures that everyone is entering the building calmlyl and they are able to go directly to class where they will be greeted by their teachers and be offered breakfast to start the day off. At dismissal time, students who are in 2nd -5th grade who walk home will be released on the lower level on the south end of the building. If you are meeting a student to walk to your car or to walk home, that is where you should meet them. If you are picking up a 1st grade or kindergarten student, please meet them on the upper level at the north end of the building from their teachers.
If you are picking up your child by car, you will pull into the parking lot off of National Avenue and circle through the main parking lot. It is essential that you stay in your car and wait until you get to the pick up zone to get your child. This helps keep traffic moving. It is also important to pay attention and keep the line moving. Please also be mindful of the crosswalk, and not block it. When you get to the pick-up zone, please pull as far forward as possible so we can load several cars at the same time. Thank you for your patience, and please know that everything we are doing is to keep your children safe and make sure that everyone gets where they need to be. | | Kindergarten Students Start Tuesday, September 6School starts at 9:05. Parents of kindergarten students are welcome to walk their children to class and then meet us in the flex space where PTA is sponsoring a "boo hoo Breakfast." There will be coffee and snacks and you can find out about the PTA. In addition, Mrs. Morley, the principal will be on hand to answer any questions. This is an exciting starting point to education and we know that our number one job is to keep your child safe and help them learn to love school! We will also make sure that they have the social, and academic skills to be successful in 1st grade.
