BSD Parent/Guardian Updates

  • In December 2018, we updated our communication system for parent/guardian emails and "robo calls" and now offer text messaging.  With text messaging, we will include a link to this page where we will post the information that is shared in email.  If there is a situation where we may be sending updates on a single subject, we will create a page where updates on that issue or topic will be posted, such as the 2019 Measles Outbreak page.

  • 3/6/19:  Bremerton School District's plan to make up the snow days taken in February

Greetings BSD Families!  Here is the update you've all been waiting for!

While we missed a total of six days, we only have four to make up.  Fri., Feb. 15th was a scheduled snow make-up day which we don’t have to make-up, and we will make up one day on the scheduled May 24 snow make-up day.

Due to the minimum number of instructional hours required per state law and in an attempt to balance important instructional time for our students--while also recognizing that nobody wants to be in school until late June--we have developed the following plan (which is pending board approval at the 3/7/19 school board meeting).

    1. We are not changing spring break.
    2. We are not changing the date of graduation. However, seniors will need to make-up some hours prior to graduation. Principal Monica Zuber will be communicating the plan for senior make-up hours at the class meeting on April 16.

We are applying for two waiver days from OSPI.

    • If the waiver is approved, the last day of school for students will be Tuesday, June 18.  We will operate on our usual end of year early release time schedule.
    • If the waiver is not approved, then the last day of school for students will be Thursday, June 20.

We will provide an update once we have a response from OSPI.

    Some other reminders:

    • No school Friday, March 22 (teachers are working but it is a non-student day).
    • No school Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29 for student-led conferences.
    • Spring break is April 1-5, 2019.
  • 1/27/19

    Greetings BSD Families & Staff:

On Friday, we sent some updates in a new electronic newsletter format called BSD News You Can Use.  The newsletter was embedded into an email (no "clicks" required to view). While everything worked splendidly during our many tests, it appears we caught the attention of some spam filters when we sent the email out more broadly--causing some of you to get a blank email from us!

We will continue to work through the technical issue, but wanted to re-send the information in text format, with a link to the newsletter. We hope you will check it out and let us know what you think!

    The newsletter includes:

    • Details on a levy information session on Tuesday (see below)
    • Information about free & reduced lunches for furloughed federal workers
    • A link to the new Bremerton School District video

We also sent an update (in a separate email) on the measles outbreak from the Kitsap Public Health District. This information is also posted on our website.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience.  We are working hard to improve our communication with families and welcome your feedback!  Thank you!
