Free All-Day Kindergarten
Free All-Day/Half-Day Kindergarten
Free all-day Kindergarten is offered at all Bremerton elementary schools and is available to all students, regardless of where they live. Priority will be given to District residents, families who have child care in Bremerton, and residents of Jackson Park Naval housing. Out-of-District students will be accepted as space permits.
By state law, children who turn five by August 31 are eligible for Kindergarten. Placement will be based on school/classroom availability. Enrollment for next year, will begin in February at each elementary school or the district office located at 134 Marion Avenue N. Please remember to register early, as classes fill up fast.
Bremerton Schools are also pleased to offer students a regular half-day Kindergarten program. This program is only available during a morning session.
Early Entrance Testing for Kindergarten
Children who turn five between September 1st and October 31st may also be eligible to enroll in Kindergarten, if they pass an Early Entrance Test (scholarships are available for free and reduced lunch program participants). Learn more or sign up for testing.
The testing takes 1.5 hours to complete using the DIBELS (Dynamic Inventory of Basic Early Literacy Skills) and the DIAL-R (Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning). To find out more about our Kindergarten or to REGISTER for the Early Entrance testing, please call Special Programs at 360.473.1061.
Dual Language Immerson Program
Dual Language Immersion programs include English and native Spanish speakers allowing for acquisition of a second language while primary language development is happening; instruction will be provided in both English and Spanish which helps to develop authentic, positive cross-cultural understanding.
The Dual Immersion Program will begin with Kindergarten students starting with the 2017/18 school year. Students attending the Spanish Immersion program during the 2016/17 school year will continue with the same program through 5th grade.
