Bremerton School District

welcome to Crownhill Elementary

Crownhill Elementary Award
The National Title I School of Distinction Award

Since 1996, the National Title I Distinguished School Program has honored schools across the country for their innovation in helping Title I populations achieve high educational standards.  Selected from each state by members of the National Association of State Title I Directors, these schools represent examples of superior Title I programs in one of two categories:

  • Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years, or,
  • Closing the achievement gap between student groups

Crownhill Elementary will be honored at the 2010 National Title I Conference in Washington D.C. in January, 2010 as “one of two nationally distinguished schools in the nation.” The two national winners will also receive state-level recognition and a $10,000 award. These funds can be used for:

  • Professional development for improvement of teacher’s knowledge base in an area of expertise or new area of expertise in effective classroom practices
  • Team building and teacher planning opportunities for the purpose of furthering the work on the school improvement plan
  • Development of additional research-based instruction
  • Development of additional strategies, curriculum and training modules

Please join us in congratulating Crownhill Elementary for a job well-done!

Jill Carlson, PrincipalPrincipal’s Message

Crownhill is committed to high standards of learning in a safe and nurturing environment. We have many opportunities for students to show their uniqueness. Some of these programs include CHAMPS, Mad Science, Spanish Club, and Computer Club. The staff takes pride in assuming numerous leadership roles at the building, district, and state level. They all stay current in the best practices that work for students. Four of our teachers are National Board certified and several more are working toward this honor.

As evidenced by our WASL and DIBELS scores, high expectations of achievement at Crownhill are a priority. Teachers continue to meet weekly as a staff to discuss student achievement and successful teaching strategies. This year will be our second year with our before school tutoring program which targets level-2 students who need extra time to reach grade level expectations.

Crownhill prides itself on continuing to build a safe and positive place for students. Our staff works hard with students and parents to promote positive behavior. Our school-wide discipline policy is focused on choices and consequences.

Crownhill PTA is a strong organization. They support our staff in numerous ways such as donations, volunteers, and many opportunities for families to get involved. Some of these events are Family Nights, Science Fair, Book Fairs, Committees, Field Trips, and the list goes on. Our families and community volunteers donate hundreds of hours tutoring and making our school a great place to work, learn, and grow.

At Crownhill, we strive to refine our teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students in reading, math, writing, and science. Another goal we have at Crownhill is to decrease the number of negative referrals and increase the number of positive office referrals. Please feel free to visit our school at any time.
