Mike Sellers, PrincipalPRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

This year we continued to focus on increasing our students’ skill and abilities in reading and math.  Students who demonstrate a need for additional assistance in reading have both the opportunity to receive reading instruction in a smaller group setting, and additional assistance with specific reading skills, beyond the reading block.  Intermediate level students who are demonstrating a need for additional support with mathematics are provided additional time to learn specific math skills.  We continue to use the services of our math coach to provide instruction in math that will lead to increased student understanding an application of mathematics principles.  We also offer full day Kindergarten in our efforts to give our students the best start to their academic lives, an integrated arts program including; visual arts, drama, and music, and focused instruction in science.

We continue to recognize and reinforce positive behaviors in our students. We use a Positive Referral system where staff and students can refer students to the Principal to for recogniition of pro-social behavior. We also have our Self-Managers program to recognize and reward students who consistently follow all of our school rules, do their very best each day, and complete classroom and homework assignments. In addition, we have added a Meaningful Work program where students can apply for small, but important jobs around school. Each of these programs has had a positive effect on helping students develop and demonstrate positive choices and behavior.
Looking back, we have had a year where the staff has been committed to providing our students with focused, high quality instruction and learning activities. Our students came to school ready and eager to learn and demonstrated academic growth. Together with the support of our parents, we had a highly successful year.
