Bremerton School District

CHILD NUTRITION PROCEDURES

1. New students should have money for the first day of school, as the student information and ID number does not transfer to CNS until the next day. Free/Reduced applications will be processed at the central office on a first come, first serve basis. Applications are processed as soon as possible after receiving them (within 10 working days per USDA).

2. Bremerton School District offers five or more components at each lunch. The student need only take 3 components in the specified amounts for the meal to be “reimbursable”. No substitute for components refused will be offered.

3. Elementary students have an ID card kept in the cafeteria. It is scanned by the cashier for each breakfast and lunch at the end of the serving line. The student must have a minimum of three components of a meal on his/her tray before the card is handed to the cashier. If there is less than three components on the tray, the student will be requested to go back to get more food items or will be charged alacarte pricing.

4. A student may receive a second meal at the student price for a PAID meal.

5. Elementary students are allowed to charge meals. A negative balance slip will be sent home with every child owing money. A “red apple” stamp may be stamped on their hand to remind them to bring lunch money. After a second charge, the student will be offered a cereal and milk instead of lunch. Another option is to have him work for 10 minutes and receive a meal. This is left to the discretion of the head server.

6. It is recommended that parents pay for meals on a weekly or monthly basis by check. Parents may request a print out of their child’s account at any time.

7. Parents are encouraged to eat lunch with their students. They will be charged the adult price for breakfast and lunch.

8. Religious and cultural practices will be considered when planning menus.

9. If a student has an allergy to certain foods or has a special need concerning food, a Special Nutritional Request needs to be filled out by a doctor or nurse-practitioner and kept on file at the school kitchen where the student is attending. A copy will be sent to the central CNS office to be kept in our records.
