Bremerton School District is proud of it's Early Learning Programs. Six years ago we launched a community-wide plan to increase Kindergarten readiness and made it a district priority to have all children reading at grade level by the end of third grade. Under this new initiative called the Early Childhood Care and Education Group, the District joined forces with area Head Start Programs, preschools, and child care providers. The District is now able to offer access to a Literacy Coach, reading curriculum, staff development opportunities, and student test results to our partners.
Working together, this partnership has resulted in marked gains in student achievement and has provided children with a better quality education. In 2001, only 4% of Bremerton Kindergarten students started school knowing their letters. Today, with help from our community partners, that number is now approximately 52%!
